Kerry Douglas, the charismatic musical architect who drafted the astounding careers of gospel stars James Fortune and Earnest Pugh, is having an online birthday bash. It all goes down during “The Mr. Kerry Douglas and Brandy B Show,” an online radio program on the VoiceAmerica. A who’s who of gospel celebrities and personalities will be calling into the show to congratulate Douglas on another year of life and to sing happy birthday. The unscripted broadcast will feature on-the-spot singing, hilarious stories and conversation with the listening audience.
Douglas has a lot of good things to celebrate this birthday. His first film “Church Girl” will be released on DVD on January 31st. Written by playwright Angela Barrow Dunlap, the film stars Robin Givens and Karen Clark Sheard. He’s also created a new Android and iPhone app for fans of his Gospel Truth digital magazine, the most read gospel magazine in the country.
Douglas’ Black Smoke Media recording label has been in existence for almost two decades. It’s produced #1 hits such as James Fortune’s blockbusters “I Believe” and “I’ll Trust You”; Earnest Pugh’s “I Need Your Glory” and “Rain On Us”; Evelyn Turrentine Agee’s “God Did It” and Keith Wonderboy Johnson’s “Let Go And Let God Have His Way” and “Send A Revival.” Douglas’ current discovery, Zacardi Cortez, is being groomed to be one of gospel’s next big stars. Douglas is also prepping former child star Bryan Wilson for a grown-up comeback, Preashea Hilliard’s Top 30 hit “Oh How We Love You” and Lonnie Hunter’s new radio smash, “Anyway You Bless Me.”
