Los Angeles, CA – Gospel Music had a strong presence in the Los Angeles area over the past week. Kicking off with the Gospel Music Workshop of America Board meeting last Monday the weekend wrapped up with the annual television taping of Celebration of Gospel.
The three hour concert took place at Orpheum Theatre on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. Missing as this year’s emcee was Steve Harvey, but stepping in to host for the first time was Actress Taraji P. Henson.
With a packed audience, this was a night filled with great music, celebration and Praises to God.
Some of this years performances included several collaborations between Gospel and R&B artists including duets by Donnie McClurkin and Tye Tribbett; LeAndria Johnson and Ron Isley, Lalah Hathaway and Zacardi Cortez; and Chante Moore and Vashawn Mitchell.
One of this year’s standout performances was given by Charlie Wilson, who shared a testimony, praised God with lifted hands and talked about just how good God is! He was so energized he had many in the audience standing on their feet, all with lifted hands praising God. Yolanda Adams also took them to church with her performance, as the crowd also responded with lifted hands.
Acoustic soul artist India Arie teamed up with Christian contemporary artist Jonathan McReynolds for a special performance. Female R&B group SWV and the Rance Allen Group also gave memorable performances.
There was a special tribute to gospel music pioneer and living legend Richard Smallwood, along with a special presentation by Dr. Bobby Jones.
